Don't forget - 5 things to do before you go on honeymoon

Don't forget!
Passport and travel documents at the ready? Speedos packed? Sorry, but there's still work to do if you're going to make this a trip she'll never forget. Just follow our five-point guide to making the most of your honeymoon.

1. Get her in the mood
She's just been through a wedding, so the chances are that your bride will be exhausted after months of organisation and excitement. Earn some early husband points by booking her in for a relaxing spa day or a massage just before you leave. It'll help her get rid of any stress and get in the right frame of mind to enjoy your holiday.

2. Make the journey special
First class tickets might be a bit steep, but there's still plenty you can do to make sure that your honeymoon is a success from start to finish. Ensure that she's booked into a good seat and arrange for her to be served champagne as soon as she's comfortably placed. If you're feeling bold, you could try calling your travel operator in advance to ask for a cheeky upgrade before you leave.

3. Keep the surprises coming
Nothing adds to the romantic mood more than a few gestures that show you've thought hard about how to please your new wife. Buy a selection of small sentimental gifts and slip the hotel staff a few quid to leave them in your room at regular intervals. If you can, secretly arrange to have champagne and chocolates waiting in your room when you check in.

4. Plan ahead
Good honeymoons don't just happen - they take a bit of effort. Take time to find out what activities or trips are available near your destination and arrange as much as you can before leaving. If there's stuff that can't be sorted until you arrive, make sure that she's got something to do – let her enjoy a cocktail by the pool or an afternoon nap - while you slip out to take care of business.

5. Organise a special homecoming
After all the excitement, arriving back to the drizzle of home and normal life can be a major anti-climax. Give her a soft landing by organising some small treats like having a new 'Mr & Mrs' nameplate put on the front door or setting up a girl's day out with her best friends. Order your groceries to arrive when you get back so you'll have a bit more time before it's back to reality with a bump! It'll make all the difference.
